Anti-Ragging Committee

Zero Tolerance Towards Ragging

At NEPNI Group of Institutions, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where every student can learn, grow, and succeed without fear or intimidation.

The institution follows a Zero Tolerance Policy against ragging in accordance with the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, and all applicable rules and guidelines. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited within the campus, hostels, transportation facilities, clinical training centres, and any location associated with the institution.

What is Ragging?

Ragging includes any act that causes physical, psychological, emotional, or social harm to another student. It may involve:

  • Physical abuse or assault

  • Verbal harassment or abusive language

  • Mental or emotional intimidation

  • Bullying or humiliation

  • Forced activities or tasks

  • Threats or coercion

  • Online or social media harassment

  • Any behaviour that violates a student's dignity or creates a hostile environment

Even acts described as "fun" or "tradition" may constitute ragging if they cause discomfort, embarrassment, or distress.

Objectives of the Anti-Ragging Committee

The Committee is established to:

  • Prevent ragging in every form.

  • Promote a safe and welcoming campus environment.

  • Protect the dignity and rights of all students.

  • Receive and investigate complaints promptly and fairly.

  • Recommend appropriate disciplinary action when necessary.

  • Create awareness about anti-ragging laws and student responsibilities.

  • Ensure compliance with UGC, SSUHS, INC, and institutional regulations.

Functions of the Committee

The Anti-Ragging Committee is responsible for:

  • Monitoring the campus to prevent ragging.

  • Coordinating with the Anti-Ragging Squad for regular vigilance.

  • Conducting awareness and orientation programmes.

  • Receiving and addressing complaints confidentially.

  • Recommending disciplinary action against offenders.

  • Promoting a culture of mutual respect and inclusion.

Anti-Ragging Squad

NEPNI also constitutes an Anti-Ragging Squad that remains active throughout the academic year.

The Squad is responsible for:

  • Regular monitoring of classrooms, hostels, common areas, and campus premises.

  • Surprise inspections wherever necessary.

  • Immediate response to complaints.

  • Reporting incidents to the Anti-Ragging Committee.

  • Maintaining discipline and student safety.

Responsibilities of Students

Every student is expected to:

  • Treat fellow students with dignity and respect.

  • Refrain from any act that may constitute ragging.

  • Report any incident of ragging immediately.

  • Cooperate during investigations.

  • Follow the institution's Code of Conduct.

Students are also required to submit the prescribed Anti-Ragging Undertaking during the admission process, as mandated by regulatory authorities.

Complaint & Reporting Procedure

Students who experience or witness ragging should:

  1. Report the incident immediately to the Anti-Ragging Committee, Anti-Ragging Squad, Principal, Hostel Warden, or any faculty member.

  2. Submit a written complaint with relevant details and supporting evidence, if available.

  3. Cooperate during the inquiry process.

  4. Maintain confidentiality while the matter is under investigation.

All complaints are handled with fairness, confidentiality, and impartiality.

Disciplinary Action

Depending on the severity of the offence, disciplinary action may include:

  • Written warning

  • Suspension from classes or hostel

  • Cancellation of scholarships or institutional privileges

  • Debarment from examinations

  • Rustication or expulsion from the institution

  • Filing of a police complaint where required under applicable law

The institution reserves the right to take strict action against anyone found guilty of ragging in accordance with UGC regulations and applicable laws.

NEPNI regularly conducts:

  • Anti-Ragging Orientation Programmes
